Hershey Felder as "George Gershwin Alone"
June's featured event is Hershey Felder as "George Gershwin Alone". While it was an introduction to George Gershwin for me, to the rest of the audience it was a trip down memory lane with his delivery of Gershwin's life story while playing Gershwin's classic tunes and then leading the audience in singing the crowd's favorite Gershwin songs as his closing act. As an accomplished pianist, the Geffen Playhouse has brought his trilogy of first person stories of Gershwin, Chopin and Beethoven to Los Angeles. I was taken by his mastering of his Steinway Grand piano and ability to capture the audience thoughout the show with his voice and persona. This show is a must see for the Gershwin era audience and anyone who appreciates great theater and piano.
"George Gershwin Alone" is playing at the Geffen Playhouse from June 13 through July 22.
Monsieur Chopin opens for a limited engagement at the Geffen beginning August 9th.
