Neil LaBute's "Fat Pig"
While at the Geffen for last week's show of "Gershwin Alone" our subscriber neighbor told us they liked "Fat Pig" which was showing in the Skirball Theater, also there in the Geffen Playhouse. So we bought tickets for this weekend. We weren't disappointed.
I've come to understand Neil LaBute tackles difficult social issues and this play was no different. How do you deal with liking someone that makes you feel good when you're around them, but are worried about what your friends and peers may think or say? This play is very well written and funny, but hits many nerves that we can all relate to. It stars Scott Wood from TV's "Everwood" and "Party of Five" and Kirsten Vangsness who plays "Garcia" on TV's "Criminal Minds". Excellent entertainment for a Saturday afternoon.
This was our first visit to the Skirball Theater located within the Geffen Playhouse where we have our season tickets. It is a small initimate theater where you are right there in front of the stage. I now wish I would have seen Ricky Jay ,the slight of hand magician and "Picasso" there this season.
Fat Pig was extended two weeks beyond it's June 17th end date to July 1. A Must see if you're in town.
